Let me tell you a tad bit about Lucas. I’m not to be confused with any actor, movie star, or super hero. I’m just a regular guy, trying to make it in this design world.
My interest in art and design started a while ago. Drawing with my dad, doodling in class at school, hanging out with my friends who were much better artists than I. I’ve just always loved the colors and lines that come together to form the new.
When I was a teen, I gave my life to Jesus Christ at the end of a well spoken sermon during a Youth With A Mission (a.k.a. YWAM) convention in Chehalis, Washington. Following that, I began deep diving into the Bible. I loved the book of Psalm because of the colorful, poetic visuals that David and other authors contributed. I loved the story of creation in the book of Genesis, and the sayings of the wise in the book of Proverbs.
One summer vacation, I found myself sitting on an abandoned clearcut hill in Centralia, drawing, journaling, and enjoying the sounds of insects and the heat of the sun. It was that day that I had a question that popped into my mind as if it were a dare from the creator Himself. This single question has stuck with me for more than 20 years…
How can the created create?
Like a child mimics their parent, I feel like we all have creativity within us. We all have the desire to make. I also have a hunch that we all want to be a part of creating something worth mentioning.
Where’s the job history?
I think there are expectations that a designer have their work history or work experience either downloadable, or explicitly spelled out on their about page. I’m just going to come out and tell you that the closest thing to a historical listing of my careers is in LinkedIn. I’ve been at Costco for so long now. I do pro bono work outside of Costco sometimes.
Dad and Husband
What a blessing. I have been married for almost 12 years now… To my first wife! haha. I think it’s funny that it’s so normal these days to talk to designers who are single with no kids, or business stakeholders and developers who are on their second and third marriages. While I realize I shouldn’t count my chickens before they hatch, I just love her. She makes me feel like she loves me. Katie is my best friend and sometimes my only friend. We’ve been through a lot together. I hope will will continue to be through a lot more together.
I have three kids. Ethan, is a teen now. I’m really proud of all that he’s done and looking forward to who he will become. He loves music. He’s proven his ability to be top of his class. He’ll be a good man. Hailee is my princess. She is 10 in a few days. She loves dogs and cute animals more than any other thing on the planet… including me. Jax is 6. He’s in T-ball and loves jumping on the trampoline. He likes to sneak treats when no-one is looking. They are why I work so hard. With so much going on, finding time to do the things that single people do (such as live for just themselves), is sometimes hard to find time for. I love them. I miss them when they are not with me.
